A Very Powerful Online Marketing Word For Headlines
ByThis post may appear to state the blindingly obvious yet a very powerful online marketing word, if used correctly, particularly in headlines can have a dramatic effect on the amount of prospects and customers that take the action that you want them to. I now use it in a lot of headlines, whether they are for website head or subheadlines, email titles and sub headings in emails, articles, blog posts.
The important thing is…you need to practice writing lots and lots of headlines to drill down to the one that will be most effective, particulary when you try and squeeze in a top benefit also. So what is this very effective word?
Well, it is rather small, yet devastatingly effective. It’s “how” as in “how to” or “how a” or “how you” or “you how”.
The most effective in many cases is “how to”. These two simple words have been used since advertising began to craft very powerful and profit pulling headlines and have formed the foundation to many very succesful adverts and sales letters. The marketing guru Ted Nicholas, who has been responsible for over $ 6bn, yes that is right six billion dollars of sales for companies and himself, swears by the effectiveness of the word “how” and the phrase “how to”.
Here are some examples you can use yourself…
- how to make
- how to avoid
- how to keep
- how to get
- how to have
- how to beat
- how to live
What you can also do is include other magic words to beef up the strength of the message such as…
- discover how to
- you can discover how to
- here’s how to
- I’ll show you how to
What you need to do is then craft a benefit into the headline it it is for a major headline or you can be very simple and use something like “how to build a shed”. Now, how long did that take?
Oh…here is an extra tip for you. If people are searching using a keyword phrase “how to…..”, do you think that if you created a website with the domain “www.howto…….com that it could well have a great chance of being on the first page of Google? Now, when someone enters the exact keyword phrase and up pops your website link on the first page, don’t you think they will be that bit more predisponed to head on over to a website that has, as the domain name, the exact search term they used?
