There may not have been a lot of competition and even if there was, you should have found gaps in sub niches that you can market to. 

What I am reinforcing is that you have identified a market that offers an opportunity for an info marketer like yourself, it has low levels of competition and a sufficient number of people searching for such answers. You now just have to reach them and supply such information to them in the form that they are happy and comfortable to accept.

So if you are not getting the sign ups to your email list or sales are not happening then examine how you are communicating with the niche, how you are presenting the information and whether you are giving the market exactly what is wants.

Your research has pointed you in a certain direction. The market is there. You will succeed if these fundamentals are correct, it is just how to get it all to click.
